ABOUT

I have been playing the saxophone for over 40 years and was fortunate to study under Scottish musicians Stewart Forbes and Spike Bayne.

To further develop my skills and understanding of jazz, I travelled to the United States to study privately with Jamey Aebersold (2014 NEA Jazz Master) and Professor Mike Tracy. I continue to visit America regularly to refine my craft. I have also studied with renowned musicians and educators including David Baker, Jerry Coker, David Liebman, Dan Haerle, and Jim Snidero.

I offer saxophone tuition, combo, and quartet playing, catering to musicians of various experience levels.

In addition, I am qualified in brass and woodwind repair, having graduated from Leeds College of Music.

TESTIMONIALS

"Colin is a serious student of jazz and a marvellous player/teacher. I first met him many years ago in Scotland when I held a week-long workshop there. We have been friends ever since."

- Jamey Aebersold, 2018

"I have known Colin MacKay for over thirty years as a student, fellow musician, and trusted friend.  I have marveled at his unbroken dedication to studying and teaching jazz and improvised music.  He is a dedicated educator who willingly shares his knowledge and love of the music with others.  He sets a wonderful example for others by his continuing to work on his own performance skills.  In addition, he is an excellent instrument repairman. Without question, Colin is a valued colleague."

- Mike Tracy, 2018
